Baby room

main play area
the children enjoy getting messy!
a space to rest and relax
Our baby room is a wonderful sensorial experience full of textures, light and creativity where our babies are encouraged to be freely creative and are provided with a vast range of quality materials and resources to stimulate and inspire their young developing minds.

At Hatton Hill Day Nursery babies can join us from 3 months of age where we have a comfortable staff ration of 1:3. Within this room the caring team work alongside each parent to know each child's individual routine to enable a smooth settling in period and a perfect introduction to nursery life.

Staff make sensitive observations to inform the planning that they complete on a weekly basis. Our babies have fun in all areas and when they need a rest from their busy activities they can go to sleep in a separate room in their own cot.

In our baby room you will notice:
  • babies having every opportunity to roll, crawl, sit, climb, balance, jump, reach, grasp and throw both indoors and outdoors
  • staff who support a baby’s choice to reflect and dream or to be active
  • minimal adult furniture, encouraging babies to crawl and snuggle with their carers in a safe nurturing environment
  • an environment stimulating from a baby's eye-level
  • treasure baskets full to the brim of natural, washable everyday objects rich in different textures, temperatures, weight, shapes, sounds and tastes for babies to grasp and manipulate
  • a flexible room with quiet cosy corners and bright active spaces
  • high quality furnishings at a baby’s level
  • mirrors and light for babies to experiment with shadows and reflections
  • creative resources encouraging sand and water play, story and circle time and our attention to detail

The baby room staff plan experiences based on the Government's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This framework values and celebrates the care and education for children and babies aged 0 to 5 years by recognising them as skilful and competent. The principles of EYFS affirm our child centred approach and highlight the importance of relationships in a baby's development.

Each baby’s dedicated Key Person will ensure that all of their requirements are met – you can always be assured that you and your baby will meet a familiar face at the start of every day. In addition to each baby’s individual communication book and daily communication sheet, our staff look forward to and value the time they have to chat with each family. Twice a year families will receive a more formal written progress report highlighting their baby’s strengths and successes in relation to the aspects of the national framework.
