In October 2009 the nursery began to support the charity ‘Christopher’s Smile’ after developing relationships with one of the founders of the charity Karen. Christopher’s Smile was set up in October 2008 by Karen and Kevin Capel following the tragic death of their only son Christopher from medulloblastoma, an aggressive childhood brain tumour. Supporting UK research centres such as the Institute of Cancer Research, Christopher’s Smile aims to raise money to fund development of new drugs to treat medulloblastoma and other childhood cancers without devastating side effects. These drugs will provide an effective cure for all and save the lives of the 25% of children who currently do not survive their disease.
We regularly run events to raise money for the charity, these are always attended by a representative from the charity, usually Karen and Kevin themselves and we also join in on events that are run by the charity, for example in September, 3 of our staff members will be taking part in the woman’s 5k run through Hyde Park.
